There can’t be too many people out there who haven’t heard about The National’s new album High Violet, due for release May 11 (hurry up dammit!). Since they’re one of my favourite bands, it would be remiss of me not to mention it, don’t you think? Can’t say the cover art’s doing much for me though.
Here’s the track listing:
1. Terrible Love
2. Sorrow
3. Anyone’s Ghost
4. Little Faith
5. Afraid of Everyone
6. Bloodbuzz Ohio
7. Lemonworld
8. Runaway
9. Conversation 16
10. England
11. Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks
I’ve been playing this one fairly solidly since it appeared on the blogs last year… let’s hope that solo is replicated note for note on the album.

The version they played last week at the Bell House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vm0qBL5j9o) was definitely stripped down from this version which features Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) doing a cool guitar solo. I think it’s safe to say there will be no solo on the album.

You’re right – The National’s new album is something to get really excited about. I love everything this band does (spoken like a true music obsessive huh?). I’ll be in Tasmania when this comes out so will have to track down a funky indy record shop to pick up my copy….and then play the living daylights out of it. Thanks for the gee up!

Noooooo! That’s my favourite part! Thanks for the info and the link, and for stopping by Ryan.
Nigel – Me too, can’t fault them. Have you seen them live? They’re incredible.

I’d totally LOVE to see them live. That’s be a treat. The only thing about The National is that I have no idea what Berninger is singing – I’m not that big on lyrics, but I do like know that there are actual words there. Having said that, it makes the listening a challenge, meaning the enjoyment lasts longer. And hooray for long-lasting music enjoyment!

i love berninger’s voice. so deep and resonant. plus i think he’s from ohio, which is where i’m from. so i, too, am looking forward to this album!

He has a wonderful voice doesn’t he? Very distinctive, you always know it’s him.

Yeah really looking forward to it. Also out that day is a new Woods album and the debut album from Sleigh Bells. Should be a grand week.
