British India, Groovin The Moo, mp3, Music, Silverchair, Spoon, Tegan & Sara, Vampire Weekend

I’m an idiot. I meant to post about the Groovin’ The Moo festival last week before tickets went on sale, but I forgot all about it I’m afraid.

Here’s the lineup – a mix of established and up and coming Aussie acts, plus a few international blow-ins:

Vampire Weekend
Tegan & Sara
Spoon
Silverchair
Grinspoon
Empire Of The Sun
British India
Lisa Mitchell
Kisschasy
Miami Horror
Bag Raiders
Kid Koala presents The Slew live
Muph and Plutonic
Funkoars
Illy
Ajax
Jonathan Boulet
Yacht Club DJs

I’ve never been to Groovin’ The Moo before, but what I like about it is that it gives those of us out in the rurals half a chance of getting to see some decent live music without having to travel to the big smoke. Groovin’ The Moo will hit up Bendigo, Townsville, Maitland, Canberra and Bunbury in May, and tickets are on sale now. You’re looking at shelling out just under $100 for the privilege. I won’t be attending myself, but let me know if you are, and who you’re looking forward to the most. I welcome your comments!

A missive from Tim over at the Contrast Podcast:

November is upon us again, so it’s time to think about the Contrast Podcast Festive 50. This year it will be on episodes 194, 195 & 196 from the 15th to the 29th of December. So here is what I need you, your friends, the readers of your blog, your milkman and anyone else you know to do:
1. Choose up to 50 (yes fifty) songs that were released in 2009 that you like. If you can only think of 10 .. don’t worry .. I’d still like to know what they are.

2. Send the list to me at contrast.podcast@gmail.com starting with your favourite track at number 1.

3. Do this by Sunday 15th November at the latest .. and try to get other people to vote too .. please!!

4. I will compile a short list of the top 100 songs which we will vote on to be in the top 50 and then start inviting people to record introductions.

5. Any questions? …. good … get thinking!

Last year’s Festive 50 was a ton of fun to participate in, and it’s not limited to bloggers – anyone can contribute. Today I started to compile my 2009 list, though it will require some serious re-listening in order to complete the agonising process of actually ranking each track.

Here are the top 5 tracks from last year:

5. Oxford Comma – Vampire Weekend

https://itallstarted.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/02-oxford-comma.mp3

4. Lost Coastlines – Okkervil River

3. Grounds for Divorce – Elbow

2. Time to Pretend (Radio Version) – MGMT

1. White Winter Hymnal – Fleet Foxes

What will the Festive 50 look like this year? It’s up to you!

Letter OIt’s a simple idea, where I post songs that all have one thing in common – the letter that they begin with. Original? Not at all. Pointless? Probably.

Having said that though, every song is highly recommended and should be checked out by your good self immediately!

O Yeah – End Of Fashion Of an Aussie rock persuasion

Ode To Divorce – Regina Spektor Of the slightly bitter and twisted but oh so wonderful persuasion

Obvious – Murder Mystery Of a Daytrotter session persuasion

Ode to LRC – Band Of Horses Of a gets-stuck-in-my-head persuasion

One And Only – Teitur Of a sweet but never sickly persuasion

One Of Us Is Gonna Die Young – The Ark Of a Swedish glam rock and catchy as hell persuasion

Oxford Comma – Vampire Weekend Of a crowd pleasing persuasion

Check out the rest of the alphabet here.

Computer ProblemsUgh. Sometimes I hate technology. I also hate my lack of ability to manipulate it for my own purposes without going completely insane. I tried changing my theme this morning because I’m a bit tired of this one, but no matter what I tried I couldn’t find the perfect fit. I think my laptop tired of my efforts also because it decided to go into slowmo mode and, not being the most patient person in the world, its attempts to piss me right off worked beautifully.

So I’ve reverted back to my original theme, and am so frustrated with the process that I’m only going to post two tracks of the possible five or six that I was going to include to celebrate what I thought was going to be a new look here at It All Started. Hmmph!

I think I’ll go stick a fork in my eye. It might be more fun.

Woke Up New – The Mountain Goats

One (Blake’s Got A New Face) – Vampire Weekend

Brought To You By, Dolores O'Riordan, Little Birdy, Mott the Hoople, mp3, Music, Pavarotti, Powderfinger, Razorlight, Vampire Weekend

A-Punk – Vampire Weekend

Am reluctant to add to the Vampire Weekend hype, but this track is pretty cool.

After Dark – Little Birdy

This track is off Little Birdy’s 2007 album Hollywood. It’s catchy and on high rotation on my Ipod as I gear up for their gig in Melbourne in two weeks time.

All The Young Dudes – Mott the Hoople

I didn’t know this song until I heard it on the Juno soundtrack. I’ve since discovered that it was written by David Bowie and that it came in at #253 on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time. Great vibe.

Already Gone – Powderfinger

You’ve been working all your life

All weekends and overtime

While you’re trying to unwind

You can’t relate to the leisured life

Promises already gone

There’s no escape, it’s said and done

So keep your love forever young

America – Razorlight

I first heard this song when they performed it on Parkie over a year ago. I liked the simplicity of it and found the lyrics mirrored the way the world seems to view America at the moment.

All my life watching America

All my life there’s panic in America

All my life there’s trouble in America

Ave Maria – Cranberries & Pavarotti

Have saved the best for last. When I first came across this track I thought The Cranberries with Pavarotti was a pretty odd combination, like tomatoes with icecream or Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. As soon as I hit that play button though, I realised that the contrasting high notes of Dolores O’Riordan with Pavarotti’s magnificent tenor were pure magic.
