Killing HeidiThese guys were huge in Australia when I was in high school. Hailing from Violet Town in Victoria, rock outfit Killing Heidi are Ella Hooper (vocals) and her brother Jesse (guitar), Warren Jenkin (bass) and Adam Pedretti (drums). Their debut album Reflector was released in 2000, with their two biggest hits being ‘Weir’ and ‘Mascara’. Both songs showcase Ella Hooper’s strong voice and rock chick attitude. I loved their story of small town kids making it good and at the time there was no other band like them in Australia.

Unfortunately they’re on a hiatus at the moment, one of the reasons being an operation Ella had on her vocal cords that damaged her voice and also her confidence. Ella has appeared on a few episodes of the ABC show Spicks and Specks in the last couple of years and always makes a great contribution. Whether or not the band gets back together remains to be seen, but since they were pretty young when they started, I think their sound would be a lot different now that they’re a bit more mature. I’ve never let you down yet guys…check em out.
