It’s the 13th, so it’s time for another Track 13. Choose a playlist, whack it on shuffle and tell me what pops up in 13th place. I chose my April playlist, and this is what it gave me:
Red House Painters aren’t in business any more (though former RHP members Mark Kozelek and Anthony Koutsos have reformed with Geoff Stanfield and Tim Mooney as Sun Kil Moon) but they were quite prolific in the twelve or so years they were together. I don’t know a lot about them really, other than I’ve been told that I should listen to them because of my liking of all things melancholy. This is a pretty sweet way to start.

ELO – Mr. Blue Sky
I’d forgotten how much I enjoy this song *grooves away*
And that’s the beauty of Track 13!
Gotta love the Red House Painters! Bring on melancholia!
Okay, I’m getting carried away.
YEAHHH! MELANCHOLIA ROCKS!
Speaking of all things melancholy, I got Nick Cave – O Children. Wouldn’t be too bad if it wasn’t for that noise in the background like a barn door swinging on its hinges.
I’m gonna listen to RHP again to bring the mood up a few notches…
Ha! Nick Cave is about as melancholy as it gets, I reckon! Thanks for visiting, Ryan.
I’m in a real Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon phase right now. But I think they get misclassed as melancholic. They aren’t really, or maybe I just have a screwy view of what’s melancholy.
