Why am I only discovering these guys now? Formed in 1995, disbanded in 2003 and the worst part of it is that I’ve only been able to track down a handful of songs. All have gone on to other projects (Band of Horses included – can hardly complain about that one!) but I’d love to know how they’d sound were they still around now. Those strings! Those melodies! All that melancholy introspection. This is gorgeous, melting, aching stuff.

Oh, and just so you know, it’s deliberately spelt ‘wierd’ and not ‘weird’. No idea why.

I’m well glad you followed up the first post about them – that All Apologies track didn’t do it for me, but these did, bigtime. one album’s at amazon, others lurk around.

Oh good, I’m so glad you gave them another shot, even after not liking the first track you heard! I’ve been more than a little obsessed with their stuff of late, and have been playing the six or seven tracks I do have in varying fits of compulsion. The only album I’ve found is that Amazon one, will have to do some lurking and dwelling to locate the rest I suppose! Really wish they were still around, would love to see them live.

I only found a few of their songs too, until I stumbled across this last year!! Enjoy

They’re pretty amazing, aren’t they? They’ve been my musical obsession for almost 10 years now and I still lament that they’re gone.
I saw Grand Archives play about a month ago and Jenn Ghetto did an opening bit. She played a few new songs that sounded great, so I’m glad to know that they’re all still making music even if it’s not together.
Cheers.

Wonderful, Charles! I love them. Obviously!
I have been getting into Grand Archives these last couple of months and bought ‘Frankenstein’. I need to spend more time with it yet, but I am utterly in love with ‘Oslo Novelist’. It’s a beautiful song.
And you’re right, they’re all still out there playing music at least, in various forms, and that’s better than nothing.
Thanks for stopping by!
