10 in a row from my October playlist, so far. If I were you, I would pay particular attention to the tracks by The Savage Rose (distinctive vocals), Horse Feathers, (because they’re lovely) and Look Mexico (interesting tempo changes and a beautiful string intro).
I’m Satisfied Mr Captain – The Savage Rose
Finch On Sunday – Horse Feathers
Foxes Mate For Life – Born Ruffians
You’re Not Afraid Of The Dark Are You? – Look Mexico
Eyes Of Love – Belle & Sebastian
Row of seltzer bottles from here.
Updated: Just realised (four days later) that there are only 9 tracks here. So either you’ve all been too kind to mention it…or you lot can’t count either!

That’s such a good playlist, you need to bottle it and sell it! And you are spot on with the Horse Feathers. Thank you ma’am.
By the way, this place looks sharp! Nice job!

“i’ve been trying to get people to call me johnny rotten. people keep calling me freddy fresh. it’s hard to take it easy when half your friends are looking way too easy. it’s hard to stay in bed when half your friends are dead. taxmen coming around the back with the kevlar vests. militia men cooking up a batch of crystal meth. there’s a war going down in the middle west. there’s a war going down in the middle western states. white crosses and wooden stakes”
It may be because I spent 5 years in the Midwest, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t a better songwriter out there right now than Craig Finn. We need to convince them to come to Oz.

By the way, just checked their tour schedule and they’re out with The Drive-by Truckers. If you’ve not heard them, check them out. Be interested in your take, they may be a bit too Americana for your taste. But they’re easily the best band coming out of the South right now.

Yeah, there’s a realness to the Hold Steady’s lyrics that I totally appreciate, simple and effective. I have heard a few tracks by the Drive-by Truckers, and each time they pop up on my player I think ‘I really must check these guys out a bit more.’ Shall endeavour to do so ASAP!
