Augie March have just announced that they’ve headed back into the studio to record their fourth album, using Neil Finn’s studio in Auckland. The album is set to include 14 new tracks, all of which have never been performed live. The Herald Sun also made this rare acoustic recording of ‘One Crowded Hour’ available on their website today.
I know this song so well that I can sing it in my sleep, but this version is a complete reinvention. It’s absolutely beautiful. The simple instrumentation gives the vocals more prominence than on the album version, showcasing lead singer Glenn Richards’ slightly husky voice. Like the original, the track is allowed to gradually build, and the wailing harmonica that kicks in about halfway through is just gorgeous. I can’t get enough.

Your very forgiving Agnes
I still haven’t forgiven them for last years gig at the Corner. Still off my playlist.
Having said that, the lyrics to OCH are as good as any written.

I know…it’s a fatal flaw I’m afraid.
